Role Purpose
Along with supporting individuals relocating from the UK to Spain with services including visa application support, residency planning, OLS offers specialist financial and tax guidance. Our Financial & Tax (F&T) team plays a crucial role in helping clients understand the implications of moving abroad and aligning their finances with the Spanish tax system.
Financial & Tax Planning Consultants work in collaboration with licensed financial advisers who deliver regulated advice through our financial and tax planning department, OLS Legal Financial Tax. Consultants act as the client’s first point of contact for understanding their situation and identifying planning needs.
As a Financial & Tax Planning Consultant, you will engage with clients who are relocating to Spain—primarily retirees or those with UK assets—and guide them through the financial and tax landscape of changing their country of residency.
You will not provide financial or tax advice but will use your technical knowledge and consultative approach to:
– Inform clients onthe general implications of Spanish tax residency
– Educate clients on relevant key financial and tax considerations
– Assess their current financial situation and goals
– Identify potential planning needs and optimisation opportunities
– Help clienst understand the need to take qualified advice from our licensed financial advisers
Your job is to act as a knowledgeable, trustworthy consultant who can “bridge the gap” between the client’s situation and the advice they ultimately need to receive.
Key Responsibilities
1. Client Consultations & Discovery
– Conduct structured consultations (phone or video) with clients to discuss their financial and tax situation, goals, and concerns
– Review assets, income, pensions, residency plans, and personal circumstances to identify implications of moving to Spain
– Clearly explain general tax rules in both the UK and Spain (e.g., tax residency, income taxation, pension taxation, capital gains, wealth tax, succession tax)
2. Needs Analysis & Opportunity Development
– Identify areas where formal advice would benefit the client (e.g., investment restructuring, pension strategy, tax mitigation, succession planning)
– Outline potential solutions in a non-advisory, educational manner
– Prepare case notes and summaries to support the regulated adviser handover
3. Liaison with Regulated Advisers
– Coordinate the client’s transition to our qualified and licensed financial advisers
– Provide advisers with background information, discovery notes, and relevant documents
– Attend adviser-client meetings where required to support continuity
4. Documentation & Compliance
– Maintain clear and accurate notes in the CRM system
– Ensure no regulated advice is given or implied during consultations
– Follow company procedures for GDPR, data handling, and service delivery protocols
5. Internal Collaboration
– Work closely with the F&T Managing Consultant and wider relocation team to ensure a seamless client experience
– Support the F&T Service Coordinator with client documentation and onboarding
– Contribute to improving consultation processes and materials
Required Skills & Experience

– Understanding of personal tax systems in both the UK and Spain
– Experience engaging directly with clients in a financial or consultative role
– Ability to communicate complex information in a simple, reassuring manner
– Familiarity with pensions, investment structures, inheritance tax, and expatriate financial issues
– Strong administrative discipline and accurate record-keeping
– Fluent English (Spanish is a plus)
Qualifications (Preferred but Not Essential)
– Level 4 Diploma in Financial Planning (UK) or equivalent knowledge
– Prior experience working with or for licensed advisers
– Any background in tax advisory, international wealth planning, or expatriate services
